Dr. Ed Wallen, President

MISSIONS

The Ukraine ministry was begun by Dr. Ken Bentley in 1993.  Dr. Bentley had been encouraged to go to Ukraine for the purpose of regaining the confidence of the Senior pastor and the people in the churches of the Kirovograd region.  Previous mission trips sponsored by the International Mission Board, had been less than favorable and had created a mistrust on the part of the Ukrainians of that region.  Dr. Bentley was successful in gaining the confidence and trust of the Senior pastor and his people; a special 'kinship' was born.

Dr. Ed Wallen's association with the Ukraine ministry started in 1996.  At that time, both Dr. Bentley and Dr. Wallen were pastoring churches in Alabama.  Dr. Bentley's church sponsored this ministry for several years, and their relationship with the Ukranian believers became strong and was blessed of the Lord.  When Dr. Wallen retired from pastoring in 1999, he started the ministries of "Bible Study Foundation".  When Dr. Bentley retired, the Bible Study Foundation assumed the basic sponsorshi p of the Ukrainian ministry.

By God's Grace and Providence, this ministry has been blessed in Ukraine -

  • Instrumental in starting no less than 17 churches in villages where there had been no church

  • First Americans allowed to speak to the students of three Universities in Kirovograd, and the first Americans to speak in a teachers' University in Gaivoron.

  • Shared the Gospel with employees of a goverment regional Agriculture office.

  • Held numerous Pastors' Conferences instructiong them in theology

  • Incorporated a medical ministry into our activities there, providing free medical care in villages where no doctor is available.

  • Provided Bibles and teaching materials in the region.

Through the gifts of churches and individuals, many Ukrainian pastors received financial aid until they were able to provide for themselves.  The Lord has enabled us to preach and to explain His marvelous grace to people who have never heard the Gospel.  He has provided a 'pulpit' for His message in remote villages, in propaganda theaters which had been erected by the communist government years ago, and in individual homes.

One of the goals of the ministry is to start a pastors' school.  The Senior pastor of the region, Dr. Doroshenko, has held this dream for his people and pastors for several years.
